Connecticut Road Trip

Nathan's best friend invited us down to their new town in Connecticut for his little brother's first birthday party.  We took the opportunity for a road trip, and found something fun to do in the morning.  Michael discovered the New England Air Museum just outside Hartford.

The New England Air Museum consists of 3 hangers full of old airplanes, helicopters and other aircraft.  The boys had a great time looking at everything, and we tried to read as much as we could as we chased the boys around.

We drove around for a short nap after the museum, and then off to William's birthday party!  It was at a farm, and the boys got to meet and feed all sorts of animals.  Nathan was very excited to spend time with Ben and see his new town.

Airplanes!

Blue Angels! Just like my shoes...

Cool fighter jet.

Nathan got a little annoyed with me taking photos, so he kept running out of the shots :)

Basket from the first ever hot air balloon.

Playing in the kid's area, learning all about airports.

Jeep!

Jack's Hack, very impressive, big, airplane.

Alex checking out the bottom of a blimp.

Pedal planes!  Couldn't quite figure out how to get them to go forwards...

Outside in the insane heat.

Michael replicating a photo of himself as a boy in front of an A-10.

Ben and Nathan!

Alex checking out the chickens.

Friends goofing off :)

Nathan feeding the goats.

Touring the farm.

The boys looking at the emus.

Hay ride!

How Ben and Nathan say good bye!

Beaches, Haircuts and Minigolf - A Little Staycation

4th of July falling on a Thursday and awesome weather made a good excuse for a super long weekend, and what turned into a "staycation".  We packed lots of fun into the weekend, trying to stay cool in the heat.  Two beaches, Alex's first haircut, mini golf and ice cream made for two tired little boys (and parents).

Alex's first haircut! A lollipop got him in the chair, and he barely noticed after that!

All done!  Just a little trimmed off, can't part with the curls yet.

Beach trip #1 was to Nahant Beach.  Super close and really cheap.  Minimal parking means it isn't crowded too, perfect!
Digging a hole with Daddy and learning all about capillary action.

Men in rashguards :)

After a busy morning, Michael attempts to get the boys to nap in the pop up tent.  It was a fail, but a cute photo :)

After naps at home, we went an played mini golf.  Alex spent the whole time trying to throw the balls and his club in the water.  Nathan did an awesome job really playing.  Michael and I just followed them around laughing.

At the end of the round, Nathan got his ball in the "win a free game" hole!  He was very proud.

And what is mini gold without ice cream?  Richardson's to boot.  Mmmmm....

That night we had a big dinner out at Chipolte.  Nathan wanted me to take a picture of him with his "mad face."
The next day we went to a more low-key beach at Breakheart Reservation.  The boys had a great time really swimming in the lake and making new friends.

4th of July 2013

We had a low-key 4th of July, Alex was just getting over being sick, and we think Nathan is coming down with it.  So we "quarantined" ourselves, missing out on most of the parades and cook outs, but managed to have fun in the heat!  The fireworks will have to wait until next year...  I hope everyone had a great 4th and stayed cool!

A good way to beat the heat - sprinkler and water table!

Snack time was watermelon made into fun shapes with cookie cutters.  Thank you Pinterest for the great idea!

Fish!

Alex taking his turn.

Star!

Tummies full of watermelon and a plate full of shapes.
We did sneak away from home to watch the Wakefield parade, we just stayed away from other people :)

Waiting for the parade.

"Where are the firetrucks?"

Firetrucks!!

We had a good 4th-style cook out at home, since we had to miss going to friend's houses.
